THE GOOD: Numerous picture controls enable the inexpensive LG LK450 LCD TV to achieve accurate color. Surprisingly for a 60Hz TV, it handled 1080p/24 cadence properly, and its matte screen is a boon in bright rooms. It also exhibited a relatively uniform screen and offers better connectivity than most entry-level TVs. THE BAD: The LG LK450s picture quality falls short of its entry-level competition, mainly because it produces a significantly lighter shade of black. Its image also suffers more when seen from off-angle. The TVs styling is lackluster and we noticed lag when using the menu system. THE BOTTOM LINE: While the picture quality of the LG LK450 has its strengths, theyre overcome by its grayish reproduction of black.

The LG 42LK450 is a basic high-definition LCD display. This is similar to the LG 37LK450 in most features, but has a larger 42 inch screen. They are otherwise the same, including the ability to display natively in 1080p resolution. The contrast ratio of 100,000:1 shows enough color contrast for general use, and the maximum refresh rate of 60Hz is adequate for playback of most content that doesnt involve fast-moving subjects. Ports on the side enable easy installation of the TV flush with the wall as well as temporary connections for portable devices, and an expanded selection of rear ports allow cords to be kept out of sight. The unit also comes with an Intelligent Sensor built in to automatically adjust the brightness according to the ambient lighting in the room. PROS: (1) ATSC tuner is very powerful, gets all local stations with an indoor antenna (2) can calibrate the picture to a great degree, lots of flexibility (3) sound is adequate for general viewing, has bass and treble controls for a little tweaking (4) menu is very well laid out and simple, perfect for people uncomfortable with technology (5) picture is sharp and clear enough to show high-definition pictures in perfect detail ... CONS: (1) lacks a 120hz mode, so sports and action scenes show a little stutter or blur (2) takes about 12 hours of viewing for the picture to"break i", at which point you need to re-calibrate the picture (3) only provides optical audio out, no other options - but its a low-cost TV, so most customers will want a low-cost audio solution
