Canon EOS T3i (600D) Review

by photo.net Monday, January 01, 0001
Review : The T3i is the logical development of Canon's current DSLR philosophy which differentiates cameras by features rather than by image quality. In the current lineup the T2i, T3i, 60D and 7D all use the same sensor and they all have essentially identical image quality. The T3i is the top-of-the-line entry level camera. It actually has better video capability than any of the other cameras since it incorporates the tilt and swivel LCD of the 60D and adds full manual control over audio levels.

Review : The Canon Rebel T3i (600D) is an entry-level digital SLR released in early 2011 as a successor to the T2i. Available with an optional EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II zoom lens, the Rebel T3i DSLR upgrades from its predecessor by incorporating a flip-out 3” Vari-Angle Clear View LCD display designed for taking low-angle and overhead shots. Like its predecessor, the Canon T3i DSLR is optimized to capture full high-definition 1080p video at 24fps, 25p, or 30p. Also featured is the option to shoot in more than one aspect ratio, a 6400 ISO expandable to 12800, and a 9-point AF system with an F/2.8 cross-type center point with a 63-zone Dual-layer metering system. The latter two allow users wit a lens over F/2.8 or faster to better track a subject via the continuous auto-focus tracking mode. Features 18MP CMOS Sensor EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II Zoom Lens (Optional) DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor 9-Point ... PROS: (1) " Swivel Vari-Angle Display - 1.04M dot resolution (2) DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor (3) high resolution 18MP sensor - similar to the one on the previous generation T2i with potential improvements from the development of the 60D and 7D? (4) slightly remodeled body - improved design and materials over the T2i (5) records video in 1080p/30, 1080p/24, 720p/60 high definition - best in class video quality, resolution and speed ... CONS: (1) same 9-point AF, ISO range and 63-zone metering as found on the T2i (2) same 3.7FPS continuous shooting speed as the T2i (3) basically just a T2i with a firmware update (4) only priced $100 less than the 60D
