description :
This versatile and compact 3.6x Zoom-NIKKOR brings the action to the photographer. Ideal for portraiture, family, sports, nature and wildlife. An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element minimizes chromatic aberration, contributing to superior optical performance. 7-blade rounded diaphragm provides more natural out-of-focus highlights. Vibration Reduction, engineered specifically for each VR NIKKOR lens, enables handheld shooting at up to 3 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper still images and video capture.

Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED

Review :
The Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED is a mid-grade external camera lens designed to provide average consumers a higher zooming lens for action and portrait photography. The NIKKOR 55-200mm lens features auto-focus (AF) and manual focus (M) mode options with the ability to switch rapidly between the two modes. The 55-200mm lens also includes a 3.6x optical zoom ratio, an extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element which eliminates chromatic aberration (failure of lens to focus all colors on a single point; creates blurry unfocusable images), and a silent wave (SW) motor which Nikkon claims "enables high speed auto focusing with exceptional accuracy and super-quiet operation". The Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED includes additional features such as a Nikon F Bayonet mount type, a 55-200mm focal length range, a bundled lens case and hood, and a minimum viewing angle of 28 degrees. Features Mid-grade external camera lens ... PROS: (1) sharp images every time, extreme detail in the picture (2) solid build with metal mount, can handle daily use (3) excellent zoom range, gets distant subjects reliably (4) color and contrast are excellent, makes everything look gorgeous ... CONS: (1) a bit long and bulky build (2) low light focus hunts around a little bit (3) zoom action is a bit sticky at the longer end, tricky to control (4) manual focus is a bit difficult to work with, not very precise

Camera Labs - Nikkor DX 55-200mm VR review
by cameralabs.com Monday, January 01, 0001
Review :
The Nikkor DX 55-200mm VR is one of the best value lenses around right now for Nikon DSLRs. It's compact, light and perfectly complements the DX 18-55mm kit lens, extending the effective range to 300mm for useful telephoto coverage. The addition of Vibration Reduction effectively reduces camera shake and in order to support AF on its entry-level DSLRs, Nikon's had to equip the lens with a quick and quiet SWM focusing motor which gives the DX 55-200mm VR a degree of classiness that's absent on rival budget telephoto zooms. While we're very impressed by the Nikkor DX 55-200mm VR, it makes the most sense when complementing the DX 18-55mm kit lens. If you have a different kit lens, there's more appropriate models to complement or replace it. Find out how the Nikkor DX 55-200mm compares against its closest rivals in our full review - and for a demonstration of this lens in action, check out our video tour.
