The PN59D8000 TV is a high-end offering designed with Samsungs new Plasma +1 technology, which enables large screen sizes with a narrow bezel (measuring up at just 1.4 inches). Another feature new for 2011 is the Smart Hub, which offers several ways in which to use the built-in Wi-Fi. The D8000 series TVs come equipped with a full web browser, the only current Samsung TVs to do so. As in past Samsung models, the Samsung apps are also available to you, and offer searchable content from several popular sites. This model differs from the rest of the 3D-enabled D8000 series in terms of display size, coming in the middle of the fifty-one inch PN51D8000 and the sixty-four inch PN64D8000 models. Features Real Black filter 59" display 4 HDMI Inputs 2 Component Inputs 1 Composite (AV) Input 1 PC Input (D-sub) 1 PC Audio Input (Mini Jack) 1 Ethernet Port 2 USB ... PROS: (1) costs less than the competition at the same level of image quality (2) a big improvement over previous generation Samsung plasmas (3) much slicker looking than the competition, almost like a super-thin LED LCD - thin metallic brushed bezels, chrome spider stand (4) swivel stand (5) well-designed backlit remote control with Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard ... CONS: (1) high price point (2) doesnt quite match the image quality of the Panasonic VT30 series (currently the best plasma available, their flagship model) (3) black levels dont quite match the competitions, loss of shadow detail is noticeable

THE GOOD: The Samsung PND8000 series has outstanding overall picture quality, with excellent black-level performance, and the most accurate color of any TV weve ever reviewed. It can handle bright rooms well and exhibits the nearly perfect screen uniformity of plasma, as well as superb 3D picture quality. It includes two pair of 3D glasses, built-in Wi-Fi and a comprehensive set of picture controls. The Smart Hub Internet portal boasts more apps and streaming services than the competition, along with a functional Web browser, and is easier to use thanks to the included dual-sided Bluetooth keyboard with a screen and QWERTY keyboard. The PND8000s design is one the most attractive of any plasma weve seen. THE BAD: The relatively expensive PND8000 cannot produce full shadow detail or proper 1080p/24 cadence without sacrificing some black-level performance. Smart Hub lacks Amazon Instant, its search is next to useless, and its interface can be cluttered and confusing. THE BOTTOM LINE: With picture quality thats nearly the equal of the tough competition, as well as best-in-class design and features, the Samsung PND8000 makes a strong case for being the best overall plasma TV of 2011.
