Tesla invests 1.5 billion dollars in Bitcoin, price immediately breaks records
Tesla, the company of billionaire Elon Musk, has put 1.5 billion dollars worth of Bitcoin on the balance sheet. As a result, the price of the digital currency immediately shot up 10 percent.
The company explains this in a report to the American stock market watchdog. Tesla is the largest body to date to hold some of its assets in Bitcoin. The company calls the digital currency a ‘value investment’ and indicates that it has purchased during the month of January. The American manufacturer of electric cars says it will accept Bitcoin as a means of payment for cars and other products in the near future.
Elon Musk seems to be following the example of another CEO, Michael Saylor. The 56-year-old American is the head of software company Microstrategy and has bought about 70,000 bitcoins with his company in recent months. On Twitter, he motivated Elon Musk in December to take a similar step. That has now partly happened.
